EJS today launched TalkToKids.net – a web guide to helping adults and parents talk with children about the hate speech.
In Maryland, an 8-year-old Muslim American child asked his father, “Is Trump going to kill us? Will we have to leave the country?”
On the other side of the country, an 8-year-old biracial girl in California asked her Filipina mom the same question and told her that the kids were talking about this on the playground.
A few months ago, the Equal Justice Society asked a group of academics, pollsters, psychologists, lawyers, and activists to help put together a guide for adults on how to talk to children about the hate brewing during the presidential election.
We were concerned about the impact the hateful language during and after the election has had on our children. Rather than just get upset, we created a guide for parents and adults on how to deal with this.
We hope parents, teachers, school bus drivers, school administrators, playground monitors, godmothers and godfathers, and all of us who love and care for our children will benefit from our work.
